The Durham Dales Federation is a federation of small rural primary schools, which was formed in September 2023. Staff from all schools work together to share expertise and to plan and deliver the curriculum. Our subject leaders co-ordinate their subjects across all the schools within our federation, which ensures that we can offer the same high-quality experiences to all pupils in our schools.
The Upper Dales schools of Wearhead and St John’s Chapel work together on a regular basis each week. At the start of the week, each school works in their own building and on Thursdays and Fridays, the schools come together on the St John’s Chapel Primary School site. On Federation days, we take advantage of the opportunities to work in larger groups with other children of the same age, and we often arrange visits and visitors for these days so that everyone can participate.
Chapel Tots Thank you to all those who came to Chapel Tots today. We had a lovely afternoon and it was great to see so many of you! This dinosaur bag was left behind. Does it belong to your child? We are open tomorrow if you would like to collect it and then closed for the school holidays until Tuesday 16th April.

View this PostSt John's Chapel and Rookhope Primary To finish our 'Remarkable Recipes' topic in DT, Class 1 were tasked with planning a new school meal. We all agreed that the Vegetable Casserole fit the design criteria the best as it is healthy and it includes root vegetables and pulses. Today, we helped Miss Jackson prepare and cook the Vegetable Casserole. After lunch, we got to taste our healthy meal. As you can see from our smiley faces, it was a huge success!
View this PostWearhead Yesterday, we had an Easter-themed Forest School session. The children enjoyed taking part in an egg hunt, toasting hot cross buns and making plant imprints on clay eggs.
View this PostWearhead Class 1 have finished their topic about Remarkable Recipes today and the culmination of all their hard work was to prepare and cook a new school meal. Last week they had to choose between 2 different recipes, which were Cod and Beef Casserole or Vegetable Casserole. Thankfully they chose Vegetable Casserole as we all had to taste it. Once we had prepared and cooked it everyone got to taste it. I was very proud of all the children as they all tried it, in fact one child had two bowls of it. Well done class 1, your cooking skills are amazing.
